Default wierd audio problem ive never seen (or heard) before... HELP!!

okay... im currently running a Sound Blaster Live! 24bit sound card. i havent had any audio problems up until this point since i bought this pc last year. what seems to happen is my volume randomly goes up and down without me doing anything at all. ive left the master volume window open and it doesnt show a change in volume on the bar when it does this, so i guess i can assume that its not a problem with the volume control on my keyboard... i really have no idea whats going on ... if someone could give me a hint id appreciate it... thanks

:-D Hey Lok,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a whole team of really talented PC folks here and we will help you figure this out no matter what it is.

Just a couple of quick questions, did this just start happening, or did it gradually get worse?

Do you recall adding any hardware or software before it began?

Have you checked for malware? If not, follow the instruction in the PreWork link in my signature, and we can see if that is the culpret.

Is it possible that your speaker wires are fritzing?

Are your drivers updated?

Could you please post the specs of your PC, OS, version etc.

Look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Does it happen with a special program?
Do you use Windows Media Player, Winamp, something else?

Almost sounds like a problem most people have with jet Audio. Could also be a power flux. Have you tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalling original ones?

glad to see you guys are so enthused... im lost hahaha

i at first noticed this problem after i came home from school one day. it just kinda showed up, there wasnt anything gradual from what i could tell.

i ran through tjn's PreWork program... and i have to say thanks for finally introducing me to some decent antispyware. it cleaned some 60 threats from my computer, but unfortunately the problem still exists. the logreports are attached if youd like to look. [yes, there are some questionalbe finds in there. niether have i changed the logs in any way nor am i ashamed. im gonna trust you guys cause i need some help]

according to the device manager, all my drivers are up to date... however, i might try the rollback idea from the_machine

primarily i notice it happening while im playing games [any, not just a slect few] and while im listening to music [WMP] or watching movies [VLCmp or Quicktime]. i did remove all the codecs that i had installed into WMP and nothing changed.

as for the wire fritzing [i dont even know what that is] and power flux ideas... i cant say i know. i did go through and check all my cords to make sure they werent falling out and reconnected them all, nothing changed. im pretty sure i have a sufficient power supply. all my pc components plug into one of those big splitters and that plugs into the surge protector which goes directly to the wall. i havent added anything new to the lineup, and as this problem never happened before, i dont think it has to do with power... but then again i wouldnt know...

as for the system specs:
Dell Dimension 8400
Windows XP Home Edition SP2 [Build 2600]
Pentium 4 CPU 3.60GHz
1GB RAM
250GB HD
Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit
... thats all the basics, but if you need to know more just ask

again, thanks for your help guys... this thing is driving me insane  :banghead:

:-D Hey Lok,

Good job on the reply, It can be daunting getting through all of our comments and questions.

as for the wire fritzing
Sorry, my fault, I meant could your wires have been partially damaged or crimped, so they're coming in and out depending on whether or not the wire connection is solid.

Let me take a look at your logs, it may very well be the root of your problem. In the mean time read this, PCHF Protecting Your PC.

I'll be right back.

@-[ lok ]- and TJ, ive spit this topic to here:

http://www.pchelpforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=2857.0

since there is something in the last post causing it to not fully open.

Last post from TJ:

Hey Lok,

I need one more thing from you. Your HJT log is incomplete, can you please reinstall it to its own folder either on your desktop or in Program Files, before running it, please make sure that all files and folders are open. (In Windows Explorer, click on Tools, Folder Options, View, Show All Hidden Files and Folders. )

Then run HijackThis again, and post the new log.

Also, for some reason the ewido logs turn into Chinese, literally, when it's posted as a txt file. Can you please copy and paste it into your post.

Thanks,

T
