Do you have a spare machine at home that you could swap sound cards with?
If not we will have to try and roll back the drivers to the original ones that would have been installed on the machine.
Go into Device manager, and we will want to do this to your sound card as well as your video card. Right click and go to the properties, then go to the drivers tab and click on "roll back driver"
This should hopefully set them back to the original, if it doesn't then we will try to reinstall it from the system recovery.
Actually that sounds like a great idea, do you have this in your menu.
Starting recovery within Windows XP
From the Desktop, click "START".
Then "ALL PROGRAMS"
Then "HP TOOLS"
Then Click on "HP PC SYSTEM RECOVERY"
You will now be asked "Do you really want to start HP PC System Recovery?"
Click on "YES" to continue.
Your system will now go through the product recovery
This should reinstall all your drivers back to default.
