Default [FIXED] I have no sound all of a sudden... Help!

Hi,
I'm new to this board.? I was playing a movie on my windows media player last night and all of a sudden my sound went out.? I've gone through the windows troubleshooter, unplugged my speakers, tried downloading the updated driver and still I'm not hearing anything from my speakers.? I have Creative's SB LIve! (B800).? It always has been working great and I've had it for almost 2 years.? My computer says the device is working properly and nothing is muted.? I even tried plugging in headphones but still didnt hear anything.? PLease HELP!!

:-) Hi Dionhaloulos,

Welcome to PCHF. We have some brilliant minds here at this site, I am sure that we can figure out a way to get your sound back up and running.

Great job on initial troubleshooting.

Let's look at things you may not have tried. Have you tried any other media player, or even a CD?
Is it possible that your speakers blew and do you have another set you could test?

If you go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, and click on the Voice tab, can you test hardware to see if any sound can be created by the computer?

Same location, can you click the Hardware tab, and select your audio device, and then follow the troubleshooting wizard?

We'll look forward to your reply,

TTFN

Thanks for replying. I don't have a microphone to try to see if I can get a playback. I tried playing music on real player instead of windows media and still no sound. The device's troubleshooting is the same thing I did last night without any luck. I don't have any other speakers to use and I don't know how my speakers would all of a sudden blow out when I was playing them at such a low level and all of a sudden there was silence. What else can I do?
Thanks for helping me.

Dennis

:-) Hey Dennis, No problem, that's why we're here.

You are really good at trouble shooting, bravo.

How about if you go to control panel, device manager, and remove your sound card from your list, then reboot and let Windows detect and reinstall the sound card, make sure you direct it to the updated drivers you installed.

Look forward to hearing your reply,

TTFN

Thank you. I'm not sure where the update drivers were downloaded to. I thought it was to my desktop, but they're not there. Should i download it again?

You can also have a look for the excact name of the driver on the site you got it from and then do a search on youre pc for it.
