Default [Resolved] microphone / sound recorder

I have just bought a new microphone headset. I know it works because i tested it on another computer. The problem is that although I can hear things on the headphone the microphone doesn't respond and i cannot record on sound recorder. I have tries a variety of sound settings. I have Windows 2000 and a Realtek AC97 soundcard. I've updated the soundcard drivers.

Any ideas?

Hello and welcome Bronto

Have you enabled the microphone in the volume control. I know that by default it isn't enabled.
Open up your control panel, go to options, properties and click on microphone.

If that is enabled then open your control panel, go to Sounds and Audio Devices and and then if you have a voice tab make sure everything is enabled properly there.

Thanks, Zimbo. I've tried all that. I still get absolutely no response. I know the microphone works because I tested it on another computer. I wondered if it might be an issue with my sound card.

Have you tried re-installing the driver for the card? http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/ac97.html

Hey Guys and Gals,

This thread was left unfinished. The next step in the process should have been to find out what sound device was listed in the Voice tab, Voice Recording box, in Sound and Audio Devices in Control Panel. If the correct device was selected, then we should have had Bronto go to the program that he was trying to use, and make sure that his microphone was listed as the Sound In device. It is very common to have to select the microphone and headset within the application as well as for the computer.

If you are having similar problems, please try all of the instructions given in this thread. If your difficulties continue, please start your own thread in the Sound forum, and make sure to post your Sound Card Specs, as well as the make and model of your headset.

Look forward to seeing you in the forums,

TTFN

LGW
