Default [Resolved] No sound coming from my speakers!

Computer Gurus and the like,
? ? ? ?I recently reinstalled Win XP Home Edition (because it previously refused to work at all). For the most part it is working properly, except, I have no sound. The device is allegedly working properly. I went thru the troubleshooting process compleatly to no avail. I also check if the volume was ON. If there were other sourse from which I can make noises, but I cannot. The card and its drivers have been installed and reinstalled several times. I can find nothing wrong with it. I have a Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit sound card installed. The manufacturer does not offer updates anymore. Before I reinstalled Windows, it did work fine (except of Flash video for some reason). I don't know what else to try. Please give me some advice as to what I can do get some music playing from my speakers again!

? ?

I have a pre owned Gateway computer, originally running Windows ME. AMD processor. 386 RAM. 80GB HD. and stuff.

Welcome to the PCHF forums

If you haven't already tried this could you go into Control Panel --- Sound and Audio Device Properties
Click on Sounds and then click on either Asterisk or Critical Stop and press the play button.

Do you hear anything?
Is there a play button there?

And my final question which may sound dumb but always worth checking, is your speaker cable connected to the correct port in your sound card.

Yup, I've tried the Sound and Audio device check. The troubleshooter had me check that too. I also checked the physical connections but there's nothing wrong there either. As far as I can tell everything is connected properly and no individual part is malfunctioning. I check if it was the speakers by hooking 'em up to something else, and they worked. There's nothing coming from the soundcard, which the computer claims is working fine.

Also, double click on the volume icon in the taskbar and make sure in the advanced settings that nothing is in "mute" mode.

I've found that there was actually a problem with my sound card. I replaced it with the old one. But it worked fine before. It's a good card. I just don't know why it won't work. I've installed, as I said before, the drivers and looked up updates on the net (finding none). But nothing of course worked. Now THIS is my issue. Why won't my formerly working Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit sound card work?

Ahhh the age old question....

Could be anything, well nearly anything. Power surge (even a small one) - overheat - static when you touched it....etc. Sorry to hear that it's broken but unless it's under warranty there isn't much you can do.
