Talking Rate My System

Second Post

Okay, so this is my new PC I've ordered. It should arrive any day now...

I'd like anyone to comment, make suggestions, criticize, anything. Just a bit of feedback, please: how it will play the latest games, how future-proof it is etc. Note that I intend for this to be mainly a gaming PC, however I'll also save all my music to it and do homework on it

Here are the specs (its from PCSPECIALIST.CO.UK - Custom PCs, Custom Computers, Custom PC, Custom Built Computers, Gaming PC):

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz) 1333MHz FSB/6MB L2 Cache
Memory: 4GB CORSAIR XMS2 DUAL-DDR2 800MHz
Motherboard: ASUS® P5QL/EPU: DDR2, SATAII, PCI-e x16, 3 PCI, 2 x PCI-e x1
OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Hard Drive: 500GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
GPU: 1GB ATI RADEON™ HD 4850X2
Power Supply and Case Cooling: 600W Quiet Quad Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan
CPU Cooling: Super Quiet 22dBA Triple Copper Heatpipe CPU Cooler
Keyboard and Mouse: Logitech® Deluxe 660 Cordless Keyboard & Optical Mouse

I already have a monitor, this is it: HannsG "New York" 19" Widescreen LCD TFT
Its HDMI, I think.

OK, so your comments, please.

Thanks

Some of the components are showing their age, but that doesn't diminish the fact this PC should be good and fast. Only 1 problem IMO. Ditch the HDD and get a Western Digital 'RE3' or a WD Velociraptor.

I won't recommend an SSD (solid state drive) yet because of the cost and the everchanging 'state of the art' where thay are concerned.

From personal experience, I would echo Cobra's comment there. You've got a potentially super system, don't let it down with one or two inferior parts.

Oh really? Well thanks, I'd barely considered the HDD . I'd get more excited over a great graphics card or a fast processor. I just thought "Right, 500gb, will that take everything I want to put on it?" And thought the answer was probably yes.

Okay, as I've said, I'm not too knowledgeable about Hard drives. Unfortunately the order's been placed (in fact it should arrive any day now...) so I can't change the HDD. I know the higher the RPM, the faster it can process data, but that's about it. Er...Solid State (heard the term, not the definition though lol)? Why do you reccomend either of the other two over mine? If I'm not really that bothered, will my current HDD store, keep and run any games, music or other files I store on it? Thanks to Cobracon and Hengis (and thanks for the comment, smokey. Sorry, as it hasn't arrived yet I won't be able to take any pictures. I might be able to get a pic of the case from PCSpecialist, lol, but that isn't too helpful )

HDDs are the bottleneck in most systems. The HDD included with your system only has an 8MB cache. Upgrading it will show marked improvement if the right unit is installed.

I wasn't suggesting the supplier substitute a different drive, but that would have been the easiest for you. A better drive is easy enough to obtain and install on a PC. RPM isn't the only factor in determining how fast or how well an HDD does it's job.

You asked for comments about your new system and to me the drive stuck out like a sore thumb.

Good luck.

Unhappy my rating

It looks ok. Just a few things I would like to add:
1. I personally would use kingston ram, cause they're more reliable.
2. I would have spent a few extra bucks to get a bigger hard drive.
3. And by the way the 1 gig video card is a waste. Bigger doesn't mean better. Like if you're playing a game that has a high of 528mb. you wouldn't be using half of it. 528mb is plenty.

Ok...
So can someone post something on how to get rid of my membership on pc help forum. And, Plez don't tell me i can't.
