Hello, yes you can make your own moded case.

If you are thinking of making a side panel with a clear insert you would need a few tools.

Like work bench for one and grips to hold the case firm.

This is a simple job as long as you are carefull.Did you do metal work in school like I did?

You measure up using a set-square 1 meter ruler and make sure you mark it correctly and measure up so it is centered or in the position you want.Use a scribe to mark the case.

But allow 1 cm extra to fold the edge over as you dont want or need a thin fragile edge.

Once measured up correctly use tin snips to cut this out very carefully.

Once cut out you need to folder over the 1 cm edge inwards on the case side panel.Although to do the corners you would need to snip several times up to the scribed line or when you try to fold it inwards it would just buckle and twist.

Now remeasure the hole you made in the computer panel.

Now you have to measure up your perpex.

If the hole in the pc case was 40 cm x 40 cm then the perpex would have to be 42 cm x 42 cm.

You need that extra 1 cm all round or the perpex will just fall out of the case or would not be able to be fixed into place unless you use a bracket.

You need an electical saw with a fine blade to cut the perpex to size.

You would need an electric edge router to shave down the 1 cm edge of the perspex to make a lip or the sheet would not ly level with the hole you made in the case side.

A small drill drill bit and an electrical drill.Plus a pop rivit gun.

Do you get my idea?

The drill is to drill small holes in perpex and edge of new hole in case and then pop rivit into place.

Any perspex should do, as long as it fits.

I am not sure I suppose there is diffrent brand and types plus diffrent thickness I would go for at least 1/2-1 cm thickness.

Check B&Q website see what they list.

You could try modding the case by sanding it down and spray with primer for metal. Then use metal paints to paint it any colour you wish or do a desgin on it.

If you are not good at art there are many stencil designs out there to make a design on the case.

Yes any were from 1/2-1 cm.

Why because the edge would have to be routered so a lip is formed.

Now unless you are highly skilled and a fantastic trained tech who does this for a living..

Then to be safe and easier for a learner 1/2-1 cm is a good starter thickness to handle the excess would be internaly and would see no extra protruding perspex on the outside of case.

For some one who is willing to have a go at this and "try his best,as in I want to learn I will attempt this".

We all have to start some were and a pratice run is good. The more you try the better you become.

Chirs did you not know cm is short for centimetre? There you go you learned something new every day........

We are here to help a bright young man with his quest for knowledge!!!!!!!!!

When he gets more skilled in the making or fitting of a clear panel he will then be able to use thinner sheets, practice makes perfect.

Buying a sheet less then 1/2 cm thickness and then he over routes it then he has just ruined the sheet of perpex. In my opinion at this stage I would most definantly buy 1/2-1 cm thickness.

You get my drift?
