Is this laptop worth $799? I mostly want one able to runs games like Crysis, but that's secondary--its main use would be a compact, portable laptop so I can work on my manuscripts on the go.

Welcome to PCHF.

I would recommend a minimum of 2 gig of memory for a Vista O/S.

You might also consider a DVD R+W.
