Hi RollingStoned, welcome to the PCHF!
Sorry noone has gotten back to you in the last couple of days, but never fear...I am here
the 2500+ barton core
was a great
CPU...the 3200+ venice
was a great
CPU...and it still competes. If it's in your budget, I'd suggest looking at a dual core (X2)
cpu, as that's the way technology is moving, and you can easily get a 3800+ X2 from 2ghz, to 2.7ghz running under 40deg and stable (with a decent cooler).
With the motherboard...I'd suggest going for something a little more well known. The reviews might be great, but what is their support like? How often are the BIOS updates released? Has anyone had any issues with warranties? I recommend ASUS, Abit, MSI, DFI or Gigabyte - they're all gamer designed boards, and with the exception of MSI are really good overclocking boards. (again, this is all if it's in your budget).
Your memory - it's 1gb of low latency
RAM...that's great, you won't need to touch that.
Your hard drives are fine as well.
Powersupply may be an issue. How long have you had it for?
PSU's lose 30% (i think that's the right %) every year since it's made. so a 1000watt
psu would go down to 700watt a year later. (someone correct me if i'm wrong on that % please) And also Antec have been recieving alot of bad buzz lately. If you decide to upgrade that, look at getting another brand, thermaltake or silverstone are exceptional.
Video card - depending on what kind of
mobo you get, if it's AGP (which isn't recommended) then you could get a 7800GS which is the fastest nvidia card you can get for AGP...or you can get a x1600 from ATI.
If you upgrade to PCI-E, if you dont get an SLI board, then i suggest getting an ATI card, 2 reasons. Firstly: ATI have much much better colour definition then nVidia. Secondly: AMD have just bought ATI, so there will be much better communication between these cards in the future.
That's my advice, if you need clarification on anything - please don't hesitate to ask
