Which is faster the FX57, Dual opteron or the quad pumped intel. All 3 are about the same price..

But for the quad pumped intel; Does windows XP pro handle 4 processors (Dual core + hyperthreading)?

I'm not a hardcore gamer but I need some power (and a lot of memory) for running several virtual machines at the same time. And a powerfull PC is still cheaper than multiple mainstream pc's.

Upgrading my current PC is not an option since RIMM memory is way to expensive and I would like 4 gig in my next PC. :evil:

In theory The P4 is supposed to be faster. But it's not. They all run faster in certain aspect's. Like The FX-57 you can compare it to a 4.2ghz P4 but overclock you an compare to a 5ghz p4 which they dont have one. But The FX-57 is only single core and is meant for one thing power gaming. And with RIMM again in theory it is supposed to be fater but it has a higher latency than say pc 3200 and yes expensive. And the opteron is 700.00 cheaper, but it is quick but made for doing 4 things at once.

Soon will be overclocking my p4 speed and its fsb with a liquid metel cooling system and activate all 16 piplines on my x800pro toxic to make it a x800xt toxic.

where did you get a P4 3.06 with a 800 front side bus? Only ones Ive seen are the 533 fsb becuase of the .06 it cant be enmurated into a 800meg FSB.. Maybe you got ripped..
