Hi I have a problem loging onto windows startup. As in my profile I recycle computers. I normaly get them from people who can give me their disks. But I went to an auction and I found 4 good ones worth fixing up. They can with no disks. They are all password protected. I have tried everything. The adminstrator does not work. I went to disk and down loaded 2000 Pro. I even took out the hard drive made it a slave on mine and clicked E to get to control panel and that did not work. I have downloaded password recovery solfware it does not work ( Dell 4100) (Dell XPS T450) They are well worth fixing up. Can anyone help with this problem? Thank you, newtothis

Hi newtothis - Welcome to PCHF!
Try using this tool to blank the administrator password. Offline NT Password & Registry Editor When you put the hard drive into your pc - did you go into disk management and check it. Sometimes you have to import the disk. If you right click in computer management you will see an option to import disk. To get to Disk Management - click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management Last edited by DIIRE; 08-26-2008 at 12:58 AM. |

Hi yes I did but it does not have import. I would even settle for new OS. Went to disk.com and can not get it to boot. I read all instructions ( I must be really dumb) I can not get anything to work. Any other suggestion?

What happens when you try access the drive in windows explorer, do you get any error messages?
You need to burn the CD version of the Password Editor with a program like image burn. After you have done that you need to boot the pc you are trying to fix with the cd. You will have read the instructions on the website for how to use. It's also best if you blank the password rather than change it. Please post back if you can't get into BIOS to change the boot order. |

Hi. I have change the boot order to CD first, but, it will not boot. I burned it with Roxio, (made bootable disk right?) If I take it out and format it I will lose everything. As a slave in my computer it will not allow me to change anything, said lock by system. I have tried (SystemRoot\System32\Config\sam) and (emRoot\system32\config\ SECURITY) it will let me in but I can make no changes, to values, strings after I'm done it just resets itself. I can't get into any of these with hard drive in computer????

Are you actually getting a Windows login screen on these computers? Or is it asking for a password before you get that far?
If it is the actual windows login screen - do you have 2 or 3 fields. Username, Password, and domain or log on to (sorry can't remember what it's called off the top my head). You may need to click the options button to see this. Please post back if you do have this extra field. |
