Hi, I normally run avg antivirus and in the past few months have got spysweeper (with antivirus). I normally run both at the same time all the time, and have had no errors or problems. I just realised they are both antivirus programs, and read somwhere that your not meant to run 2. Is this a bad thing to do? or should I just run one? what is the problem with running both?

WEll you shouldnt use 2 firewalls or 2 aV systems.One thing that could happen is the Av 1 would think Av2 is a virus and Av 2 think Av1 is a virus and attack each other.

If your not having any problems, I would just leave it. If your PC has been laggy or you need more space on your HD then I would uninstall the AVG. Remember "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.".

Two anti-virus programs running simultaneously is definitely a no-no, since they may conflict with each other (visible or not).

It is however ok, to deactivate the real-time protection of one anti-virus program and keep it as an on-demand scanner. That is, you can update it and scan your computer for a second opinion, but otherwise the product you deactivated will not be running on your PC.

hi, I have stopped the spysweeper service from running now eluminating the spysweeper.exe that was always around. In autoruns there are still a number of drivers for example :

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services

SSFS0509Spy Sweeper FileSystem Filter Driver Webroot Software Inc (Spyware detection and removal software at Webroot.com) c:\windows\system32\drivers\ssfs0509.sys SSHRMDSpy

Sweeper Mini Driver (Verified) Webroot Software, Inc. c:\windows\system32\drivers\sshrmd.sys

would this cause an antivirus problem??

yeah, you MOST definitely don't want 2 anti-virus programs running; worst case scenario is they would cancel each other out and leave you vulnerable, but most likely your machine will just become really unstable.

The sshrmd.sys file is just a driver, don't have to worry about it. If you've uninstalled the spysweeper av from the add/remove applet, you should be good to go.

ok, over 4 months I have experienced no problems or performance differences whatsoever using the two AVS at the same time. However I have now uninstalled spysweeper as a precaution.
