Default Battery light flashes 4 orange, 1 green

Hoping this is the correct area.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 and have noticed that when using the laptop with the battery pack the battery light flashes 4 orange then 1 green. When using it on just the mains power without the battery it works fine.

It's also giving me the unmountable boot volume BSOD soon after selecting Last Known Good Config mode. This has only just started happening today.

I'm not sure if these are both related. The machine has recently received a RAM upgrade (from 1GB to 2GB) but has worked fine for a week or so although battery was flashing, now won't boot passed LKGC mode whether using mains or battery pack.

There is stuff saved to the C: drive which I'd like pulled off before having to reload Windows. Do you think this would be possible given that I can't get passed the BSOD?

Many thanks for any help on this

Hello SMD84! Apologies for the delay.

Are you able to access safe mode? If so, gather your data while in Safe Mode.

Otherwise, the hard disk can be removed and slaved to another PC using a USB EZ Connect device available at most PC supply stores for less than $20. Unless the drive has failed completely, the data will be accessible.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hiya DCiAdmin,

Thanks for your reply. I ended up reloading Windows in the end as it would just blue screen after selecting last known good config mode. I didn't think to try safe mode to be honest. D'oh! There wasn't much on there as I'd only just received it a month or so ago.

As for the battery lights flashing, turns out it's a faulty battery which isn't usually covered under warranty, so I hear. It works for what I need it for so I'm happy to leave it at that for now.

Thanks again for your help

If this is a new system
There wasn't much on there as I'd only just received it a month or so ago.
, the battery might be covered. I believe that most large vendors provide for 12 months battery warranty on a new system.

I'll get this marked as RESOLVED. Do check with your lappy's manufacturer though - you might be surprised on the battery warranty.

See you around the forum!
