Default Extremely Nosiy Fan!

Sorry I wasn't quite sure where to post this so hope it's in the right section.

I have a relatively new E-Systems desktop computer, and its very noisy! I think its the fan. Its situated inside a pc desk cupboard and this doesn't make it any quieter as you would expect. It's really off putting when you are sitting there surfing the web or whatever, I can even hear it upstairs, you would not believe how noisy it is.

Anyway, I have download Speedfan and tried to use that but it doesn't work, I reduced the fan speeds down to 40%, 50% but it doesn't make any difference. In fact I don't think the Speedfan program is compatible with my pc.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I can make it quieter, it's driving me mad!

Thanks.

Hiya,

Noisy PC's are one of lifes bug bears!! I hate them.

As your PC is fairly new, it's probably not a huge build up of dust (although that's worth checking).

Invest some time and not a great deal of money by going here: Quiet PC-Quiet PC Hardware-Quiet PC Components-Quiet PC Zalman Products. I have used them so many times in the past, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Really, I don't mind noisy PC's. The one right next to me sounds like a wind tunnel.

However, what I find is that of the two fan types that I am aware of (connector wise), the MOLEX ones are the loudest because they usually only have one setting and are not actively managed.

The three pin variety connect directly to the motherboard and are actively slowed or sped up depending on what the system needs.

What I would do is open the case up (disconnect all cables first) and just look at what you have.

If you have a molex fan then disconnect it. If you hve a large case with ample ventilation holes then you could make do with just a heatsink fan which you should already have.

Thanks for the replies. What I have done for the time being, is I've placed a thick piece of polystyrene underneath the pc, because a lot of the noise was vibration. and it's helped. So I will see how I go with this resort for now. But thanks for the tips on how to reduce the noise.
