Default Failing PSU?

Hi guys,
Over the past few days, when I've come to turn my computer on I press the power button as usual but the computer won't turn on. The fans spin for a split second and the power LED continues to stay illuminated but thats it. The first day this occured I turned the I/O switch on and off on the back of the PSU, attempted to turn the computer on again and after a few cycles of this process my computer powered up as normal. Over the past few days this has progressively got worse like for instance today it took about 15-20 attempts to get the computer to power up. Once the computer powers up everything runs fine with no issues, I have temperature monitoring software installed on my computer and none of components are too hot either.

Any help would be much appreciated because I'm a little puzzled on this one and would prefer not to fork out for anything new until I've got a good idea what the problem might be.
Thanks

Welcome to PCHF deejaykelly,

I can understand you not wanting to buy anything that you don't need and as I have seen PC's in the past with these symptoms, where it turns out to be either the PSU or the motherboard, is there any way that you can get your PSU into another PC to test it?

Thanks for the quick response,
Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to put my PSU into another computer, most of the people I know own laptops. Instead, I was thinking of borrowing a multi meter from work and testing the voltage readings from the PSU.

A good alternative if you have access to a multimeter Let us know how you get on.

Forgot to get hold of a multimater at work today so will wait til tomorrow. Something that did puzzle me even more is that my computer started up this evening the first time I pressed the power button, I have my computer, screen etc. plugged into a surge protected extension lead and I usually switch this off at the mains (I don't unplug anything though). Last night I left the mains on and all of a sudden its like nothing was wrong, could something as daft as that really sort the problem out? I'm abit sceptical but if anyone has any thoughts on this then let me know.
