Default Help please ... blank screen

My friend brought me his computer to fix, it would not turn on at all. Quick diagnosis told me it needed a new Power Supply. PC is an HPa530n, and had a 250W PS.

I replaced it with a 350W PS, and everything turns on fine, but I get a blank screen, nothing at all. CD Rom runs, DVD runs, lights glow. HDD spins. I took HDD out and installed in my PC as a slave, works with no problem.

My friend told me the PC had been knocked over during transport to my house. So, I thought to myself, maybe something got knocked loose... I've taken out video card and modem to re-seat. Still not working.

If CMOS battery is dead (not sure if it is) could that cause PC to not work?

Could the Motherboard be shot, and if so, how to tell? Can the HP's have their motherboards replaced?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

BIOS battery dead?Proberly PC would still work.

Have you connected 20 pin/24 pin power supply plus 4 pin power supply to mainboard?

Could you list the hardware?

Have you tried resetting CMOS via jumper?

Hi, thanks for the reply!

Yes, the 20 pin plug is attached (disconnected the extra 4, not needed) and the 4 pin "other" power plug (brown/yellow) is also connected to MB.

I plugged in the power supply to both DVD and CD, both operate (open/close, lights come on) with no problem.

Removed PCI modem

Removed AGP Video Card, replaced it w/ brand new PCI Video Card

Still nothing... blank screen

I just tried resetting CMOS jumper per HP instructions (moved pin from 1-2 to 2-3 for 10 seconds, PC unplugged, moved it back)

Still nothing... blank screen

Something I did JUST notice... Keyboard lights do not come on. If I unplug keyboard, and plug it back in, all 3 lights on keyboard light up for 1 second, then shut off...

Does that mean anything to anyone??? Hopefully ???

All input appreciated... I promised my friend I'd fix his PC, but this one has me stumped !!!

So you have a 24 pin power socket on mainboard? Then it needs 24 pin power supply.Even if it is split into 20+4 pin same as myne on my computer.

Then you have a seprate 4 pin power supply lets say near GPU?Then this needs to be connected also.

Does the GPU require apower supply connection also? Can you check for any power connection ports on it please.

Hi again...

No, there is only a 20 pin power socket on MB, so the extra 4 pins are dangling off to the side.

The other 4 pin power supply is plugged in to MB, a few inches away, separately.

Here is a link to my MB, scrool down after clicking to see pics / schematic:

Motherboard Specifications, K8N8X-LA (Diablo)

GPU, is that the Video Card? If so, it does not have any other power supply other than being plugged into the AGP slot on MB.

What about the fact that the keyboard is not functioning? Does that indicate anything? LIke I said, it turs on for a split second, well, all 3 lights glow, then nothing...

Everything else powers up on the PC, the CD, DVD, the Hard Drive spins, lights on PC glow...

I just get nothing on monitor or keyboard.

I've also tried 2 different monitors, that I KNOW both work, so I know that isn't the problem...

I'm stumped!

Yes I see its 20 pin.

Are you using a USB keyboard?

When you turn it on as in computer are all fans spinning or is it spin for a few seconds then shutdown/stop?

Not USB, keyboard w/ purple plug in end.

All fans remain spinning, and internal / extrernal lights remain glowing, while PC is turned on.
