Default Can't figure out why... whole computer is too hot

i recently got my pc in the mail after moving, the bolts came loose however i put everything back as i remember even looked up some guides.

since ive replugged the motherboard and reattached the big cooling fan i have. I turned it on and everything is stupidly hot, hard drive, dvd-rom (which im not even using) power unit, cpu, some parts of the board.

im starting to believe it is my power unit and i want to turn it down, but i cant seem to load up bios menu its just a blank black screen with a flash "_" in the corner. even after i updated my bios.

anyway here are my specs. im running a 4600+ dual core AMD 64. power unit is 570watt, my motherboard is ASUS A8N-SLI PREMIUM. theres something i noticed on the board saying fanless design on a metal box on the motherboard and some metal pipe thing that runs half way over the board to some grill looking thing. but thats also hot.

i know how to use computers but i dont have much knowledge on motherboards and internals.

please help! (maybe i replugged the motherboard wrong???? i dont know...

Hi... welcome to PCHF

OK... from what you've told me, the PC is running, correct ?

That mobo is pretty tough.
It has a passive-cooling design-- which means that it has air-cooling with no fans involved. See the link below.

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium PCSTATS Review - Asus A8N-SLI and the Heatpipe

This means you do need to make sure that the case fans are operating.... in order to prevent excessive heat build-up inside the case.
As long as that is running-- and steadily-- you should be fine.

Most computers have CPU-coolers with a fan.
Yours does not use a fan (by design)

it is nearly impossible... with common sense and a bit of care-- to plug a modern motherboard in wrong. The connectors won't fit-- and they are "keyed" with raised ridges on them so you can't put them in backwards without a lot of forcing.

Harddrives do run quite warm to the touch... the spindle is turning at usually 7,200 RPM for days/months/years-- inside a drive-case.

video of how your harddrive works below:

Hope this helps

okay thanks for the reply. my cpu is running at 65 degrees so that should be fine right? but my other components are pretty hot, is it better to leave side panel on or off? ive always left it off due to the heat.

The motherboard comes with a passive heatsink... which after more thorough reading is for the Nforce 4 chipset...not the CPU -- my apologies.
In fact this setup requires a CPU fan that moves a lot of air to help with cooling the rest of the boards' components.

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium PCSTATS Review - Asus A8N-SLI and the Heatpipe

So Gombie--when you see this please check for CPU-cooler operating freely--dust build-up-- or you might even consider a larger CPU cooler ... though this takes some care/time/thought.

There's the "room" consideration --
a heatsink/fan that will clear your other components.

Then there is how many cubic-feet per minute it moves

and -- quiet is important (to me)

for example-- I run a Zalman 120 mm CPU cooler.
It is a big, heavy unit... but my CPU stays cool.

It is also very quiet. I can't take the roaring of smaller fans-- generally the larger the blades, the more air it moves with less noise.
Plus a good fan usually has a controller with it so you can crank the speed when you need the extra cooling...

Trouble is-- it's technically heavier than the motherboard should support... so great care must be taken when moving your computer...

Zalman CNPS7500-ALCU

in fact... due to the Heatsink for your Chipset... you would have to be extra careful of clearances. The cooler should provide airflow without touching other components on the board.
