Smile PC suddenly not able to boot

Hey I have been running this custom built pc for a while now and was playing call of duty 4 when all of a sudden it powered off (you can imagine my joy). The symptoms for my problems are this: when the power supply is turned on, all the lights on the motherboard are on and it looks completely healthy. When I push the power button, everything powers up for a split second (yes, all fans and everything) and then it suddenly turns off (but all lights on the MB are still on). It will try to turn itself on again after about 5 seconds, and I assume this is because the bios is set to automatically turn back on after a power failure. It will keep trying to power up every 5 seconds until I shut the power to the motherboard.

So far I have tried changing the battery on the MB, using the onboard start button instead of the case one, unplugging all peripherals to lessen the load on the PSU (shouldn't be a problem its 500W), and reseting the CMOS. To test the power supply I used the trick of shorting the power on pin on the PSU to turn it on. The fan came on properly, but is this a good indication of whether the PSU is working or not?

Ok here's an update, I have swapped the motherboard and it powered on fine, this isn't a PSU issue then, so this thread can be moved, or left alone, whatever works. I guess it's just a deal of bad components now.
