Default psu for 8600gt.......

so i got an 8600gt a while ago and recently games have been lagging and sometimes completely freezing which is apparently a sign of an underpowered psu. (can anyone confirm that?)

my current specs are:

athlon 3800 X2 2.0ghz

1gb ddr2 266mhz

evga 8600gt 128bit 256mb gddr3

so im thinking of this psu:http://www.dabs.ie/productview.aspx?...ationKey=11259

i dont know if it would fit my pc. i also have some qs about ocing and ram

1. would this psu be compatible? how do i find out?

2. would it allow me to oc my cpu and gpu and get a total of 2gb ram?

3. would it be futureproof for a mid range gpu in 6 months or so?

4. if i ocd my cpu or gpu would i need cooling?

5.would it be worth it, ocing my cpu? how much would it improve performance in say crysis? and just so everyone knows, im not entirely stupid i know i will not max it, im looking for 1024 by 768 with all medium settings and 4aa if im lucky!

6.should i get 2gb of faster ram or 1gb more of the same ram? would there be a significant difference?

ps, if you know any answers please post, you dont have to know all of them!

all input appreciated!

If you OCed you would need extra cooloing. Both on CPU and GPU if you OC both.Well better cooling fitted to both.

I would go for the OCZ 600-700 watt Power Supply Unit.

If you are gamer 2-4 gig of DDR2 is much better go for the 4 gig myself.

Plus we need more information on this build.Like what mainboard are you going to use?Does it take mixed sized RAM.

Any ways others will post more information for you.

thanks for reply
mainboard is: nodusm3 geforce 6150

apparently my problems could be from overheating? is 51 hot for idle?

why is it necessary to get such a powerful psu? wont that just consume more power unecessarily?

Well the point is of a better power supply is if you want to upgrade in future?Maybe you would want to add another GPU or a few slave HDDs?

It is only feeding what is connected with it.

Not only that--
You are gaming with the PC.
Gaming is the most stressful activity to use a PC for...
Having the extra power overhead allows for those extremely-intense moments that happen in some games...Everything is slurping up the juice--- the RAM/ The CPU /The Video card/ the Monitor. Plus a little extra-- in case you want to add that next-up model of video-card next year...
Nothing 's worse than being at the height of a game... and have your whole system crash because the PSU can't keep up with demand.
Another factor is overall system stability-- a well-designed heavily built PSU just won't let you down.

Your mainboard is ATX :9.6 in 9.6 in.

So yes you proberly got an ATX case.

One 24-pin ATX power connector
One 4-pin ATX power connector
Two PATA connectors
Four SATA connectors
One floppy drive connector
Two 12v fan connectors for CPU fan and PC fan
One 9-pin header for power button, reset button, power LED, and HDD LED
One audio header for headphone-out and microphone-in
One audio header for line input
Two USB 2.0 connectors supporting 4 additional USB 2.0 ports
One IEEE 1394 connector

So you are ATX.

OCZ power supply unit is ATX compatable. So you should be fine.

I actualy have the OCZ Stealth extreme 600 watt fitted in my ATX case.So I advise you to get the 700 watt at least as I have 600 and I dont game.I also agree wtih ih8bills.

Please remeber to get better cooling before you consider in overclocking.
