Default My PC won't power up

I am having trouble getting my pc to start up. It seems like either the power supply or motherboard is dead. When i try to turn it on, the green light on the motherboard turns on but nothing else happens. The power supply fan doesn't turn on, nor does the hard drive or any other fans. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Thank you very much for your help.

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Firstly make sure power cord is pushed fully in?

Open up the PC and check all cables and connections are fully plugged in,that nothing has come loose inside.

Okay, the power supply is firmly plugged into the wall so I don't think that is the problem. On the inside, the power supply seems to be plugged into the following things: the cd drives, the floppy drive, the zip disk drive, the hard drive, the mother board, the fan (yes, only one besides the power supply fan and cpu fan). That fan is aimed directly at the mother board in between the graphics and sound card. Is there anything else that the power supply should plug in to? Thanks a lot.

It could be failed power supply?

Do you have a power supply you could try?

Yes you should have either a 20 pin or 24 pin power connection on the motherboard with a power supply lead going into it.

They may look connected just check they are pushed firmly in.

It is plugged into the mother board I think. Is a lead different from a plug? I have something with 20 wires plugged into the mother board. I don't think i have a spare anywhere. Should i go ahead and buy a new one or might that not be the problem?

A 'lead' is the cable.
A 'plug' is the connection at the end, eg: the 3-pin 'plug' that you insert into your wall power sockets.

You don't necessarily have a faulty lead, so don't buy one yet, but if nothing else is loose or hanging free/not plugged in, then it is a possibility.

Did you recently make any changes to the hardware inside the system?

When was it last working and what were you doing prior to shutting it down / turning it off?

Is there a way to find out for sure if it is power supply or processor related? Also, my computer is somewhat old. I can't find an identical model online. What specs do I have to match between my old power supply and the new one? It has a little red switch that says 115 or 230 depending on the way it is flipped. Is that the wattage? I can't find it listed anywhere else on the box.

The op said the light comes on on the motherboard so power is getting to the board. My guess is Motherboard fault

Uh oh, motherboard? How hard would it be to replace that? Also, there is absolutely no noise that comes from the computer at any time. No fan or anything. Doesn't that mean that the power supply is not working? Thank you all very much for your help.
