Default Alarm from Machine

Hi there
I recently had my machine re-built, and it's working very well. Problem is that there's an alarm that keeps screeching from the box and I don't know what it means!
I suspect it may be an over-heating or dust realted issue. Has anyone else ever had this problem, and if so, any advice on how I might remedy it would be gratefully appreciated!
Thanks, Levi.

Hello Levi, welcome to PCHF.

Please can you describe this alarm? and does it stop you from booting or anything like that?

Hi there and thanks!
The alarm sounds similar to a police siren, quite piercing! It doesn't stop me from booting up, but it does often sound as the computer starts up. Sometimes it stops once the boot-up is completed, at other times it continues. It can also start at random times, and will not stop.
Cheers - L.

Welcome to PCHF Leviburr,

Please check your Heatsink on your CPU. it might not be on all the way. also i would check to make sure your fans are running and there is no dust.

Hiya
I did suspect heat or dust! Can you advise me on how to check my heatsink? Thanks, Levi.

hmm, well when it's overheating, the PC will normally just reboot or shut itself down rather than make any kind of warning sound, plus you wouldn't hear it when you start your PC. Also, I would have thought it would have been cleaned out when it was rebuilt.

That only thing that sprung to mind when you mentioned a siron sound, is the case sensor. Make sure the case of the PC is properly latched into place fully, failing that, open up the PC, locate the PC sensor (if present, will just be a push button on the edge of the PC), make sure that it is fitted properly, and connected firmly to the motherboard.

Finally, can you fill in your PC spec's on your PCHF Profile. This will give us a better idea of what PC Hardware you have, and we'll be able to understand and help you more accurately, go to My Subscribed Threads - Edit Options.
