Default PC won't power up

Hello, today my PC (Emachines T2958) Froze up on me, I turned it off and when I tried to power it back on, I am getting nothing at all.

The green light on the mother board is still lighting up and I tried a different Power Supply, I also tried bypassing the power switch and am having no luck.

I am out of ideas as to where to trouble shoot from this point on. Any help would be great.

hey scorpios. It could be the CPU is dead. First, vacuum dust out of the case and the CPU fan. Also, tyr making sure everything is seated properly.

AW_3_3 Thanks, I will give this a try, I am wondering how to find out what CPU's are compatible with the motherboard that is in the Emachines pc, I checked the emachines website and they don't give any specs really for the Motherboard that I could find...

The PC is about 4 years old, but I use it for everyday tasks, so if I could replace the CPU and fix the problem, it would be better for me then having to buy a new PC. Thanks.

Its more likely to be motherboard than CPU in my experience

Surprisingly I have the same exact problem, just few days ago I turn on the computer and the power button will light up and does nothing.
I unplug the power cord for few minutes, and try it again and it works fine.

Today I finally smelled something fried.. I took it apart to see exactly what's going on and I found an insane amount of dust which I cleaned.
Plugged it in again to see if it'll work, now the power button lights won't come on and I do see the CPU green light on which means there is connection but overall the computer is dead.

I'm guessing it's the power unit and it costs a bit for how old this computer is.
I'm trying to find a power supply for cheaper.

Now here is the question, do any power units work with my PC? or when it comes down to it, each PC has its own power unit that cannot be mixed or matched with others?

thanks in advance.
