Default I think it's dead...

Ahem, my PC is broken..Again...Sigh...

Anyway, well, I changed the power management to disabled, so everything would run full power. Bad idea. After 2 hours I smelt burning, so I changed the power settings back. an hour later, it shut down and I could smell intense metallic burning. I tried turning it on this morning but, no luck, it just won't turn on.

I'm guessing I'm gonna have to buy a new PSU, but which one?

Help. =[

Hey Dillan,

Were you trying to stop your PC from going to standby after a certain amount of time?

errr, umm, ok... how odd???

OK, first of all, check your power supply requirements by using eXtreme Power Supply Calculator v2.5 (enter in all of your PC Spec details, add 15% of CPU degredation and round it up to the nearest 50w/100w to give yourself some room).

The best power supplies to buy include Thermaltake (best IMHO), but ultra, SilverStone, Vantec, Coolmax to name but a few good quality reliable power supplies. Good web sites include:

Quiet PC-Quiet PC Hardware-Quiet PC Components-Quiet PC Zalman Products
Computer Power Supplies, ATX Power Supplies - PC Power & Cooling

Okay, it went to like 493 watts or whatever. Since I got told to round to 100/50 I did, which came to 500, but they only sell in 550. Will it make any difference if I use a 550?

No Dillan its fine 550 watt would do,however if you plan to add more PCI cards I would go for 600 watt.

As long as you have anything more than 493w you'll be fine. 550 is much better and will give you some room for expansion.
