Default Is the Psu sufficient??

I am currently in the process of having a beastly pc built for me, which unfortunately i have been told by the salesman will need a small power station to run. I am getting a 2x3 ghz dual core and the nvidia 8800 ultra- the best nvidia card money can buy. The antec psu that comes with my case as standard is 500w, i was offered 650w but i was told it may be insufficient and was quoted for an 850w antec psu which costs 150, which i think is a rip off. So what should be ok for my specs? is the 500 w psu enough??

Howdy Derekjerry

if you look at my system under my computer a 500 watt psu will not power that. I would say no to Antec.. They have been having allot of troubles..

And be weary of a 850 watt psu only costing 150 bucks, that would be a no named brand which I would not trust with all that machinery..If you can order from new egg this is one of the best out there and will be ample enough for you.

Here is a great company I have used.. Newegg.com - ABS Tagan ITZ Series ITZ800 ATX12V / EPS12V 800W Power Supply 115 - 230V ± 10% tolerance TUV, UL, CE, CB, FCC, Semko, Nemko, Demko, Fimko - Retail

And this is what runs my system without a hiccup (rated #1 for awhile now)

Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad (Black) EPS12V 750W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, ULC, CE, CB, RoHS - Retail

oh Sorry your talking pounds lol..

I say no to ANtec only because they have been not been on top for a long time now..
The PCP&P is rated number one, and tagen are just under them and will last forever, with a 83 to 90% efficiency compared to Antecs 75%..

The Sonata's are descent though.. If your going to keep ANtec, Stay with Sonata's or the truepower ones. But go no less than 700 watts..

Also if your going to have such a hughe system you want your PSU to be nice and cool not hot, and ANTEC is known for getting hot. PCP&P are known for staying cool

Ya it through me off as well..

Like I said though, Stick with Sonata and truepower.. Do not get talked into getting a SOHO or others from Antec..

On the other hand, if you want to semi future proof your pc get a 1kw psu, yes there pricey right now but it is wayyy worth it
