Default Problem with my psu (advanced user)

Hi, I have a PC that I built myself. Recently my OCZ power supply had died and I sent it in for warranty. They sent me a PSU back and I had successfully installed it. Last night my PC was in standby mode and I had held the power button on the front of the case for a few seconds to shut it off. I was fairly sure that this would not cause any harm... but apparently it did. Every time I try to start my PC up now, I get a small surge of electricity, and then everything dies out. I have to turn the power switch on my PSU off and on again to get this to happen. After the first time I try to start the PC up, it won't even respond... What is wrong with my computer, and what can I do to fix it?

Id suggest Getting another RMA.DON'T try to start your Computer until a new Power Supply Unit arrives. It might break it.Possibly try a different brand of PSU.

Hi D_99, welcome ot the PCHF.
Even though the computer was in standby mode, shutting it off like this is still very dangerous to the data on the computer, and to the hardware inside it...however, this being a new power supply...i highly doubt that this is what caused your problem.

It sounds as if there's something shorting out in your case.

First step I would do, is remove everything completely from the computer - power supply, hard drives, motherboards...everything. Make sure there's no lose screws floating around the bottom of the case, and start again.
Only install the CPU, 1 stick of memory, 1 video card, and the hard drive that has your OS on it...

If the computer behaves the same, I'd start accusing the motherboard of being faulty...
