Default [Resolved] random power saving mode

hello nice forums,
My computer is old and custom made and recently the fans on the graphics card stopped working so i brought a new different type one. I feel like the problem is with the cpu overheating it feels very warm near base. The cpu fan is still working fine. I have to have a huge room fan blasting air inside the pc to get it working and this doesnt always work!. The power saving mode comes on at any time, when the pc is loading windows or when applications are being loaded and when it goes to power saving mode once.. it can keep going to it alot before windows loads properly again.

Ive tried the speedfan program but recieve error "Unable to use I/O" and im not sure how to configure this?.

maybe its not the cpu just my sixth sense tells me it is, can anyone help fix my quirky pc? cheers adam.

some specs.

Main board Asustek computer INC. A7N8X

Video card NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti 4600
Hard disk 16gb Fat32
Hard disk 2 160gb NTFS

The new graphic card fan is a Vantec IceBerq4 Pro VGA Cooler.

Hello Adamuk, welcome to PCHF.

Try using these programmes instead:

CPU Temperature Check (|MG| Free Download - EVEREST Free Edition 2.20)
The maximum temperature of an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ is 85°c.

GPU Temperature Check (NVIDIA nTune NVIDIA nTune)
Temperature of an NVidia card should ideally be below 60c, but is ok up to 70°c. Your chances of a GPU crash dramatically increases after 70°c.

I couldnt get the temperatures from my graphics card though. Do i need to connect a sensor or something?. The nForce fan speed is at 675 rpm.

Everything looks OK there, even the HDD's are quite cool. I'm was not entirely sure that the Ti 4600's came with temperature sensors, I think you've just proved that they really don't.

Did you have any problems before installing the new GPU fan?

It's very unusual for a PC to go into standby mode whilst the PC is starting Windows, this is before even Windows Power Management kicks in. It might be worth disabling the PC's onboard Power Management from BIOS. Are you able to do this? You problem may be nothing to do with overheating or power management, there may be a physical problem onboard. Is the fan the only thing that has been recently installed?

I dont remember any problems before installing it. I couldnt find PC's onboard Power Management from BIOS. In bios i do have set to aggressive mode and when i changed it to Optimal the PC went into power saving mode even quick or so it seemed. That fan and also a exhaust fan which fits in a rear expansion slot power connected via the power unit cables.

The power from the graphics card fan is connected to the motherboard i dont think the old fan was connected this way.

When i start up a 3d graphics game like true combat the pc goes to power saving once the level loads up!. Strange how my pc goes to power saving after i restart sometimes.

maybe i need to speed the graphics card fan up its only going 675rpm and according to the details it can go up to 5500rpm. I dont know how to change the speed though?.

Sorry for taking a few days to get back.

I'm suprised it needs to be connected to the motherboard. The purpose of having the fan connected to the graphics card is so that the graphics card can control the speed of the fan. I am also suprised your using this kind of fan for a Ti 4600. Bit of a waste IMHO, but the speed of the fan is dependant on how much power it is supplied with. This can sometimes be increased from BIOS also.
