Default PSU or Something else?

Hey all,

Over the last few months Iv'e been having problems with my PC shutting off at random. Gaming....not gaming....did'nt matter what I was doing. Just random shutdowns. Last week it shut down and will not power back up now. The POST display on my MB still works however. When turning on the main power to the PSU I get the 00 message which is normal. When I press the power "ON" on the front panel it goes to a code "83". Reading the manual it says, "save all data in stack back to CMOS" under the heading of "E8POST.ASM starts".......

Sounds like jibberish to me.

Motherboard is an ABIT AN832X
Power supply is an ASPIRE 500w

Any info would be greatly appreciated before I go and blow $80 bucks on a PSU I might or might not need.

Thanks,
Manders

ok. first step, try clearin gcmos. inside the case, there should be a set of jumpers that say somthing like CL CMOS, BIOS CLR or something like that, something that woudl seem like CMOS flash. flip the jumper, leave it for about 10 seconds, put it back and try to turn it on

Hi, Had a look around and re-flashing the bios seems to correct the problem

OK, Thanks for the link MadMatt. I cannot flash the bios, because I cannot get my rig to power up at all. In reading the article you linked me to, is it possible one of my power failures destroyed the bios?
