Default Continual Shutdown Problems

Hello All,

I graduated from college last week, and it seems that in moving all my stuff I messed up my pc. After setting it up, it turns on fine and begins its normal boot up operation, but after about 30 seconds, it just cuts off completely.

I've made sure that all the cables are still plugged in securely. I haven't had any problems since I built the system 5 months ago. I'm almost positive its a PSU problem, as everything else initializes properly for the first 30 seconds of the bootup.

I'm using a Cooler Master 600W eXtreme power unit, P5N-E SLI motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo, and Geforce 7600 GTX. Again, everything has worked perfectly for 5 months, and this is getting pretty frusterating. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate some help.

The first thing that comes to my mind is something is overheating. Make sure all the fans are running properly. Try booting it up with the case open and see if anything in there is getting hot.

I had considered that, but all my fans are plugged in a running properly. Also, if it was overheating, wouldn't the amount of time it ran before shutting down vary somewhat? Right now, it boots for exactly 30 seconds every time before the shut off.

Unfortunately its not giving me enough time to get into the system menu and check the core temperatures.

Is there some way to verify that the PSU is functioning normally without completely hooking up a different unit?

Well, a lot of people say that it takes only 30 seconds to cook a CPU. I'm no PC expert, but I think that your CPU is overheating. Make sure that the heatsink and CPU fan are working properly :]
