Default Power Loss Issue

I have a compaq presario 1700t laptop.

Running XP PRO SP2

While the machine is running it will power off in suddenly, This is a laptop that has no battery in it, the AC adapter connections all apear to be secure. The CPU fan does not work however I have compinsated for this issue by drilling small holes in the case and using a cooling pad with 2 fans. I am trying to figure out if this isue is CPU related or if it is a new issue involving the PSU. Any information about this would be great.

Thank you,
Joe Miller

Hi Joe, welcome to PCHF.

My vote goes for the PSU, although (and this may sound silly) did you change the power socket (wall), for a different one in the room? Also, check that all of the power contacts are clean - laptop and cable.

Have you got a pic? I would love to see those "drilled holes" !!
