Default Please Help I have no power!

I am extremely frustrated. I just bought new guts (mobo, cpu, hd, graphics card etc.) for my old case. After installing all the hardware seemless with the exception of the internal front panel connectors, I tried to power it on. Nothing. I have played with the front connectors, and checked for shorts and I don't get anything. Every few times I will get a slight burning smell. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, my PSU came with a 20 pin connector so I ran to the store and picked up a 20 to 24 pin converter. Could that be defective? Is my board fried? I have gotten no lights, led or any response other than the occasional very faint burning smell after about 10 seconds.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Nate

Hi WSuperman and welcome to the board,

I would think that any burning smell is not a good thing. Could you tell where the source of the smell was coming from? Did you see any sign of smoke? Smell in your PSU to see if maybe it was that. Are you sure that you had all the connectors plugged in correctly?

If I were you, I would not power it back up untill you find out just where this odor is eminating from. Double check and even tripple check all connections.

Let us know what you find out.

I think the only think worth trying is a new power supply with the correct plug no adapter. Hopefully the smell came from the power supply.
