Default [Answered] laptop running hot/loud

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-K37. It's a little over 2 years old and for the last few months it's been running really loud. I downloaded SpeedFan and it says my CPU is running at 73 degrees centigrade! It has a Pentium IV, 3.20 GHz processor. This computer's been through a lot in the last year as it was doubling as my work computer.

I have no idea how to upgrade laptop fans/heat sinks, so I'm looking for some suggestions. Should I be upgrading the fan, heat sink, processor, all of the above? I'm familiar with upgrading desktop machines, but should I even attempt to take this laptop apart or just leave it to some overpriced professional?

It all comes down to a couple of things.

There is clearly some sort of problem with the cooling in your laptop. You haven't done anything to the components of the laptop, so it would be safe to assume that something is failing, more than likely the CPU fan.

Now....depending on your confidence level with working around the insides of your laptop, you have at least 2 choices;

1) You call Sony and describe the fault and get them to send you a replacement CPU fan/hestsink assembly (with instructions) that you fit...and feel incredibly pleased with yourself for doing so.

2) You get a local technician to do the same and pay more for the priviledge.
