Default [Resolved] Quite The Problem...

So i've asked on other forums to no avail, i figured it was time to take this problem to a more dedicated tech forum... And i dont know what the problem is, so im putting it in here since the only thing i can think of is the PSU...

So here's the deal, i thought the problem was software at first, because i noticed it right after buying a new game. The PC completely locks up and the sound goes staticy sometimes and just loops.
But then it started happening with other games. And then once while installing something, and then once while just browing and listening to music...
Hmm....

So here's what it is. It just locks right up, i cant play a game for more than 5 minutes without it crashing. Often the game crashes within the first minute. But just using the PC i can leave it on for days...
But it happens outside games as well.
-It's not software, as ive tried a completely different HD.
-So obviously its not the HD either.
-It's not over heating. Temps are fine, no dust, nothing.
-It's not drivers, i've updated all other drivers, and reverted video drivers and then updated again. Even flashed the bios upgrade.
-RAM checked out fine on mem test...
-I've reseated all Hardware, and oddly was able to play a game for about 15 minutes, then it crashed again and once more is locking up quickly.
-Prime95's torture test didnt lock it up... (but it only ran for about 30 mins, so maybe i should run that while i goto class today)

And the mobo is reletivly new... Maybe something on there is messed up?
Maybe flakey PSU? It's only 2 months old...
I'm 100% stumped.

AMD 3200+ Venice
ECS RX4800
1.5GB Corsair RAM
Radeon X1900GT
Rosewill 500W

Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to PCHF greatwhite!

Hmmm...

Before the tech team get here please answer these questions:

1. Have you overclocked?
2. Have you ran memtest?
3. Have you tried running with only one stick of RAM if possible?

Chris

So narrowing it to one stick of RAM fixed it. Man, ive been tripping over this problem for weeks now..

So what can I do to fix this so I can run both sticks again? I assume its a mobo issue?

Hello greatwhite, and welcome to the forum.
This is probably not a motherboard problem. Even though memtest said the ram was good, ive had it lie to me before, although it is usually reliable. Can you switch the stick of ram that you took out with the one youre running on now , and see if it works ok that way?

Well, i tried putting in a different stick of RAM in it's slow and no go... So i guess it's that slot thats faulty..?
A completely different stick in the same seond channel slot froze right up once i launched a game... so hmmm...

It is likely that one stick of your RAM is faulty. Lets get this clear:

You have one stick of RAM in now and it is fine?
Have you switched that stick of RAM for the other one that is out into the same slot, what happens?

Chris
