I have 3 sticks of RAM. I've only been running 2 since it doesnt recognize all three with how the channels are set up.

So i have
1gb
512mb(A)
512mb(b)

I was running 1gb and 512A when having the problems. I took out 512A and system ran fine with only 1GB. Now with 1GB and 512B in the appropriate slots the system goes back to lock ups. So that means it's the slot... Right? And as the mobo is only 3-4 weeks old, i should probably RMA it?

I can try running with the 1GB in the faulty slot, but i get the feeling it will start and run sluggish and ultimately crash... But then again, i had lots of feelings throughout the whole ordeal that were wrong. So i don't see why i couldnt be now.

Thanks a ton for the help BTW.

Hmm i have never heard of faulty slots but i suppose its possible, i have sent a PM to one of our resident techs and they should be able to clear this up for you.

Thanks,

Chris

Are you sure it's a faulty slot greatwhite, or not just the combination of RAM your using? If it was connection problem onboard you will normally have a BSOD. Inside that BSOD will normally show an interconnection error. Have you had any Blue screens of death? Are there any signs of damage on these slots?

Well the RAM combo has been working for well over a year now...
No BSODs...
And as for signs of damage, none that I can see the actual slots, but the plastic pin locks seem to be very tempermental and lodge in odd positions... I had to ween it back down a bit to get it to actually lock the RAM. Im not sure...

Ouch, that doesn't sound too good!

I'm not sure if I've read you right, I got the impression that you did the following:
- Tested each stick of RAM in one of the slot and everything works OK?
- Tested each stick of RAM in another slot and you start having problems?

You can also test the memory itself by using memtest (if you have a spare floppy disk or cdr using Nero): Memtest86 - Memory Diagnostic Page

EDIT: Correction, Bugsey - the good lil rabbit that he is just pointed out that you have already done a memtest? If so, can we just rule out one more thing before you send your mb back? Can you give me the details of everything see see on the stickly label on each of your RAM? Also the make and model of your mb?

Offhand they're all Corsair Valueselect (big spender)
2x 512MB
and 1 1GB Model

and the mobo is an ECS RX4800
Thankfully i broke one of the RAM clips during this whole ordeal since the Video card is literally only about 2mm away from the clips, and since one was open when i put the card it, the card just snaped it right off.

le sigh, i doubt they'd let me RMA it now if this is indeed the problem.
