Default Small animal rescue charity

[ keeps fingers crossed that my site doesn't break any rules ]

Website is Animal Concern Cumbria - West Branch Animal Concern Cumbria is a a registered charity for England and Wales. All personal details within the site can be found through all public channels (such as the charities commision website). The website features the west branch only at this time.

I started to volunteer for this organisation 5/6 years ago after adopting my dog and realising how short of volunteers these small organisations are. I'd been around on the net for years and watched the birth of chatrooms and forums etc, and realised that I could use my knowledge of the internet as a way of gaining further exposure to the plight of many of the charities homeless animals. Since not many people in the area had internet access or even knew how to turn on a computer, it was a way of combining my own knowledge and skills and also helping the charity become 'electronical'.

First of all, I set up a page within my own family website (now deleted), and spent some time on the animal rescue forums publicising the organisation and the dogs that needed homes. After a few years, I felt that much more was needed and finally got the go ahead from the committee to set up a site just for our branch. This is what you see here.

It is my aim in the future that the whole charity should have a site, with pages to each branch respectively. Sadly, some of our charity members aren't ready to enter the millenium yet

its not the best site on the net, but since its launch in 2005, we've had over 16000 visitors. During that time, we've also re-homed at least 20 out of the 300 dogs purely through the fact the website was there and also the extra coverage from the forums.

I am always looking for ways to make it user friendlier and to include more information and support in the future, so If you would like to give me your feedback, I'd be most grateful. Thanks for looking

I don't see anything wrong with posting this here, quite the oposite.

Thats a job well done I'd say. I'll also have a look around the site some more.

Hi Amanda, I think that's an amazing website!
Me and parents have re-homed two Cavalier King Charles Spanials in the past and didn't regret it (Both of them sadly passed away last year ).
2 Months ago we got another Cavalier King Charles Spanial but we didn't re-home this time.

I hope the site keeps expanding!

Matt.

That's great Amanda good job! It's good to se some one who cares about abandon animals. My cat was a dumped cat the poor thing is pure white and only has half a tail and is deaf!!! But I still like him I got my dog off some one who was taking them to the pound and she is the best dog ever!!!

I don't understand how people can just dump there animals. don't they care! Some times I wish the shoe was on the other foot

Thanks for your positive responses everyone
Its nice to know that many of you have already adopted a rescue dog/cat too

Cowburn (Matt), so sorry to hear about your caveliers. I am sure you gave them a wonderful loving home and have some wonderful and fond memories of them.

madmatt, sometimes people don't have a choice about getting rid of their animal. As you may have noticed in the UK, many landlords now restrict animals on their premises and this is one of the main reasons, so many well cared for animals end up with us. Its a heartbreaking situation for both the animal and of course the owner, but at least they have charities like ACC to help. Most animals that end up in the pounds, usually get 7 days and then they are destroyed purely because there are more animals than there are possible homes. Thankfully, with ACC, we never destroy a healthy animal so working for them is far more pleasurable since I know that when an animal has gone, its gone to a new home
I worked in a pound last year and it was soul destroying. Each day I returned, I was wondering who had gone. Sadly, only 2 dogs had actually been rehomed and 1 was reclaimed in the 6 months I worked there, whereas over 200 dogs had been destroyed
