Hi Guys,
Ive got a old Packard Bell Easynote L4 wth XP
When i start it up it gives a bsod and then goes to a page which gives me option to start in safe mode which works fine.
I have followed ur BSOD posting thread but in my minidump folder ive looked at all the dates ( to try and post the most recent) and the last one that was dumped there was 19/12/08. also 9 more dating back to jan 07
To be honest i havent used this laptop since around then but didnt want to post an old one?? ive checked that it is set up to always minidump but hasn't dumped a recent one??
what should i do next?
thx
Matt

Hi Norris,
Double check the date on the PC itself is actually correct, but if you have already followed the troubleshooting section, the only other reason why a dump file would not be saved is if it was not able to physically save the file for some reason, such as if the disk was no longer accessible, or the PC was shut down before the file could be generated. Under the Startup and Recovery dialog, you can actually set the minidump folder to another drive, see if you can set the directory to c:\ or a folder on a USB pen, or whatever external storage device you have available. The information in the stop error itself can sometimes be handy. Can you tell me what the error code and any file name that appears in the blue screen itself? |

Yeah you can't really expect to get all the information you need just from an error code. Well, at least, there are very few stop error codes that do. In addition to the error code, a log file would have told us exactly what was happening and what was running at the time of the crash. The code tells us nothing really in this case, only that some hardware or hardware driver has raised the IRQL/taken exclusive access of the CPU. Could be anything from faulty hardware to a bad/misbehaving device driver.
If your receiving this stop error in concert with other stop errors as well, commonly 0x8E (0x0000008E) and 0x50 then it could be hardware, most likely faulty memory as one of the possibilities shown in the Microsoft article posted by AsianSpark. What's worse in this case is that your CD-ROM is also knackered. This would be required to perform a memory test, or perform any kind of Windows repair or system file check. But you might want to make sure you have all the latest device drivers installed from the manufacturers web site (Video Component - Intel® GMA 900 Video Driver - 7045140100 - Downloads - Easynote L4 series - platform_k2s_dc - Notebook) |
