Hi Stephanie,

Try booting into Safe Mode and deleting them. In order to get into Safe Mode reboot your PC and hit F8 as the PC boots up. Select Safe Mode in the menu you are presented with. Let me know how that goes

Hi Crush,

I booted into safe mode and tried to delete the file with no luck keeps coming up with a box that says:

destination folder access denied

you need permission to perform this action

autochk
date created 21/01/2008 02:34
size 627 kb

i'm now completely flummoxed as to why i cannot delete the files as i have administrator rights.

Steph

Hi Steph,

Try this:

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click OTM.exe to run it.
  • Paste the following code under the area. Do not include the word Code.
Code:
:Files
c:\windows\system32\autochk.exe
c:\windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-autochk_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18000_none_e1f3e d49c1c122ef\autochk.exe

:Commands
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]
  • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Push the large button.
  • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Stephanie,

That is great to hear!

Please download and run OTC (formerly OTCleanIt) from here:
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTC.exe

Click the Clean Up! button
This will remove any files and folders associated with some of the more destructive programs I have had you run
A reboot will be required to complete the removal.
