Default new laptop, internet now intermittently slow

Good day,

My laptop has suddenly slowed and I'm not sure what triggered it. I recently removed alot of promotional software pre-installed on the system. Applications on my PC are running slower and my internet is about 50% slower.....it now takes much longer to update various applications such as adaware, Avast etc....

I've done the following, in safe mode: system restore, CCleaner, registryfix, , Ad-Aware, Avast, Windows Defender, HijackThis.

I have followed your pre-work instructions disabling system restore and running HijackThis and Malwarebytes etc....

PC system details:

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite 15" A305

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz

Ram: 3 Gb

OS: Windows Vista 2007 Home Premium, 32bit, SP1

I see nothing wrong in your log but you can remove this.

Have "HijackThis" fix the following item/s in the list below by placing a check in the appropriate boxes.Confirm that you have only the listed ones checked, then press <Fix checked> and close"HijackThis".Please close any open programs before doing this fix.

Thanks for the quick reply.......the laptop is working well now. I'm using Windows Firewall, Defender, Avast, cCleaner, Adaware, and now Malwarebytes to keep my PC problem free.

Is Windows Firewall a good enough firewall or should I replace it with Zonealarm? Any other free software you recommend? Can you suggest a good, free Registry Cleaner? Also, is there a link that identifies which unnecessary services can be disabled in Vista to minimize PC resources?

much appreciated,

Paul in Toronto, Canada

Zonealarm is heaps better than Windows Firewall.

This may help disable some of you sevices.

Thanks for the tips.......

Is zonealarm compatible with Vista? I've seen comments on download.com that say it's buggy. Have you heard different lately?

many thanks,

Paul
