Default Automate xml file

Okay guys here's the thing

I exported a wireless connection profile in windows vista using “Netsh wlan export profile name=”[ProfileName]” Folder=”[Folder Path]“ then I import the profile to another computer using “netsh wlan add profile filename=”[filename.xml]" and it works great i get an IP address and eveything and all is well.

Now in order to import the profile to the new computer I must run the "netsh wlan add profile filename ="filename.xml" and must point the "filename.xml" to the actual location of the xml file.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me to script or automate the entire process where I would just create one file and double click it to import the wireless lan profile on other computers instead of going to command prompt and typing the command to import the profile.

I hope this isnt too long and confusing.

Thanks guys

Hi emjay, I'm very sorry for the delay here. Yep.. there's a very simple way you can do this.

- Open up a new document in notepad (start, run, type in notepad).
- Paste in the commands you would normally use in DOS.
- Save the document, but instead of saving it as a text file (.txt), save it with the extension of .bat (batch file). Batch files can be executed by simply double clicking on them.

Further Hints
- Be careful when saving the text file, notepad likes to add a .txt at the end of the filename, resulting in the file being something like myfile.bat.txt. Make sure the file ends with .bat
- Use @echo off on the first line of the batch file if you want to hide the commands when you double click on the batch file.
- Use pause on the very last line if you don't want the command window to dis-appear immediately when the batch file is finished.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to try the batch file right now. I will copy the contents of the xml file to notepad and save as a batch file to see if it works. Basically I just want to set up one script so that when it is executed it will go ahead and configure the computer for the wireless network. This would include adding the SSID, Encryption, network password etc. I been reading more on the netsh command and it seems quite possible.

Thanks again
