Question Processor Pin Mod Question

I have never heard of a pin mod but I have a Q6600 and I wanted to go from 2.4ghz to 3ghz by using this pin mod and it looks interesting. I was wondering how reliable this is and if there are any huge risks other than my CPU could break. The mod makes the fsb go from 1066mhz to 1333mhx so making my clock go higher. This mod I think is for people with a motherboard locked against Ocing which mine is. My motherboard, and RAM can support 1333mhz. If this is as easy as it looks I have to put electrical tape on a pin pad and put my CPU in and it should just work. If its that easy I would do it...free performance!!!

NVIDIA Forums > Intel Q6600 Mod Simple Enough For Idiots

theres the web site where I found it. Please give ma any ideas towards this thx.

Hello QrazyQuadQore

I myself have never heard of this at all. Though I am sure one of our techs have, so I will open your thread and one of them should be along soon to help you out.

Thank You

Heck, go for it. If you've got the money I've got the time. After all, what's the worst that could happen? Maybe blow up some stuff?

I usually caution and advise against overclocking without doing a lot of homework. For the sake of morbid curiosity this case gets a 'waiver'. You seem eager to do something.

Maybe even consider this: ClockGen 1.0.5.3 Download - EXTREME Overclocking

Enter at your own risk.

Pin mods was a thing of the past Pentiums, was it not? I haven't heard of anyone physically pin or pencil modding since the Athlon days. Get a Core i7 and o/c the h3ll out of it.

edit - I just read the link. Looks simple enough (I question the validity of this method with CPU-Z posts). If you're only using tape, and not irreversibly altering the CPU, I say why not?!

It would be best if you cleaned off and re-applied the thermal paste, yes. Ideally, if things went wierd - you'd just remove the tape and everything's back to normal. Just make sure you've got your cpu goo on there, and there's good contact with the heatsink.
