Default i5 seems way too hot for idle.

hi, im a first time system builder so over last week i order parts and built a system (I hope the specs can be seen in my "Sig")

When i installed the stock intel cooler i did so outside of the case checking each pin and for full contact between CPU and Heatsink

I've since installed Vista, drivers etc, and just to check i looked at my bios and it was reading 86C on bootup. I read the max temp for it should be 72C :O

Any help is greatly appreciated. also in case it was an air circulation problem i took off the side and had a pedastal fan blowing into it but no change it just kept climbing.

I have to ask the obvious here, did you use thermal paste between the cpu and heatsink?

How to apply thermal paste at Arctic Silver...

Just the set paste on the stock cooler.

Is the CPU fan in fact running at all? Go into BIOS and set the fan to run full speed by disabling the auto mode.
