You'll find some very good cleaning/application instructions here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appi..._dual_wcap.pdf .

After you get a high quality heatsink compound applied and until you get this problem worked out, I'd go into BIOS and under "PC Health Status", disable CPU Smart FAN Control. This will stop any kind of load or temperature control and force the CPU fan to run wide open continuously.

Is there a way to test the fan unit out of the computer? Also I disassembled the cpu unit apart. There was a small film of grey stuff on it so I assume that was the Thermal paste. On Tuesday I will get the paste & put the cpu back together. I'll read up on those links to get more familiar with cpu installations. Thanks for all your help. If anybody knows how to test the fan out of the computer let me know. Thanks again.

Since I have my CPU out, I used a magnifying glass to look for any abnormalities. What I discovered on the bottom where the yellow triangle is -over 3 rows & down 7 was one of the circular contacts wasn't fully circular at the top a very small area didn't have all the gold contact. Is this normal? Also can notice finger prints from the thermal paste(not very noticable unless you look through the glass)Looking through the mag. glass the paste was not touching any of the contacts. Should I clean the finger prints with alcohol? Any recommendations on the shape of this CPU-bought it brand new. Thanks for any help.

Loaded up the pictures. The dealer I bought off Ebay says he tests them before he ships them. See if you can see any flaws. Thanks for your time.

That was a quick reply. We have no computer stores in town, but headed out tomorrow, so I will pick up some themal paste tomorrow. Will install tomorrow nite. I won't go through Ebay anymore.I'll stick to Canada Computer or Tiger Direct esp for CPU's. Thanks for your help.
