Question New Computer Build - Won't run OS setup from CD on boot.

HELP! Just built a new computer. When I boot up for the first time it comes up and allows me into the BIOS, but when I try to load OS from CD it seems as if it don't even recognize it and all I get is a black screen, no messages, no beeps. Cleared the CMOS and tried to boot again, same problems over and over. In BIOS it is recognizing the HD, the DVD/CD drive and RAM. I'm wondering if it could be a RAM issue though, possibly not compatible. Any suggestions?

Hello JHWhite, welcome to PCHF.

One question, if this is the first time, how can you load your OS from your HDD? Surely it wouldn't have been installed yet? What is that last thing you see before the black screen?

To boot from your CD, you need to check your boot device priority from within BIOS. Make sure that your CD-ROM comes before you Hard Drive.

Correct, I went into the BIOS changed the date and set the boot priority to CDROM first, then HD. When it first came up, it showed the Motherboards Logo, then went to a screen where it listed the specs and had the energy star in the upper right corner. At the bottem it had "To conintue press F1 to enter set-up press Delete". When I pressed F1 to continue, it gave an error message on a black screen, "No Operating System Found" - Shut down, rebooted and now it quickly flashes past the Mobo logo screen and within a couple seconds, the monitor goes to sleep mode with only the yellow light on, all green lights off, and nothing changes.

Okay, need a bit of info, what OS are you using?
Is your BIOS boot order set to CD first, before HD, otherwise it will just say "Operating System Not Found" or "Load system disk"
As for your ram, please post your Motherboard & Ram models

Hey JH, what is the last before "To continue press F1 to enter setup press Delete"? It must have encountered a problem to stop you at that point. Also, just before this message it should also list all your storage devices, hard drives and CD-ROM's, does it do this?

Alright, turns out it may just be a bad motherboard. But here's the newest info for those that have been willing to try and help.

Motherboard: ASUS M2N SLI nForce 560 Socket AM2
Processor: AMD Athlon 64x2 6400+ Socket AM2 CPU
RAM: Corsair TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz E.P.P.
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 512 MB PCIe

Found that I have to clear and reset the CMOS everytime I turn the computer on or I don't even get a picture. When I do get a picture I'm recieving the error: "CMOS Error: Defaults Loaded" which I found to be a possible bad CMOS battery or corrupted CMOS. It will also list all the hardware information at this location, and thats when I then get the message to hit F1 to continue or Delete to enter set-up.

The Boot order is also set for the DVD/CD ROM 1st and then the HD. I have even tried it with only the DVD/CD ROM selected, everything else disabled.

I've read some reviews about this motherboard on Tiger Direct and found that someone else was having the exact same issue. Had to always reset the CMOS battery and wouldn't boot from disc, and he sent his back for a refund. So that may be my course of action too unless someone has a good idea of what can be done to fix this problem.
