Post Core 2 quad (Should I use thermal paste?)

I recently purchased a Q6600 quad core processor, and I'm going to install it soon, it includes no thermal paste and in some intel processor installing video it says not to apply the thermal paste..
Need to know if I should use it or not , or maybe I should get a better CPU cooler.

If you bought a retail boxed cpu the Heatsink and Fan that shipped with it will have thermal compound in the base of the Heatsink. I however would advise removing this and use artic silver instead.

Whoever posted the video wanted you to blow up your cpu lol

HI tob0 and welcome to PCHF

Thermal paste should ALWAYS be used on the processor beacause without it the CPU will last about 10 seconds when you switch on then overheat

How do I remove it?, it's a solidified thermal compound (silver stuff) at the base of the heatsink right?.......

it will just wipe off. If your using stock and not going to overclock its not a huge problem however it may stick and make removing difficult later

im guessing the video is saying do not add any more paste than is already applied

Thanks.............., do you think I should get a cooling alternative for my CPU instead like liquid cooling or thermaltake fans?

if you intend to overclock yes. If your not going to push it to far the Artic Cooling freezer 7 pro will do. I use a Noctua and its huge and quiet but thats just me.
If you have a G0 stepping cpu it should reach 3.4 to 3.6 gig on air

The Zalman 9700CPS is supposed to be good. The best one in the list is the Tuniq tower 120, but its a beast, its enormous, and very heavy. I dont recommend it if you will be moving your computer, as it can damage your processor core from the pressure it will exert on it. Those Zalman and TT coolers are all very good also. I would go with the Zalman 9700CPS

The Tuniq Tower will be very easy to install as long as it dont snag on any heat pipe coolers on the motherboard. I use the noctua and its bigger and heavier than the TT and that was very easy to install. The chances of damaging the core is slim
