Default Core 2 Quad

Why do they put 2 in the name when it's got 4 cores? Why go quad core? what are the features and benifits that would interest a gamer ? Thanks

My guess would be because it is basically two dual cores together, same architecture.

Not really, unless the game is designed to make use of four cores

Core 2 is the core type duo and Quad relate to the number of cores. There was a Core duo in laptops prior to the C2D

yes , i just started this thread so i would know whether to go for a q6600, got an e6850 right now but want to upgrade.

Neither go for a E8500 if you want dual or a Q9300 of course dependant on Motherboard being compatible
