For insurance purposes, i need to know which one of the following is technically faster. Intel Pentium M Processor 740 1.73GHz (my current one) or Intel Centrino Duo processor 1.66GHz (recommended one)? I know one is 1.73 and the other is 1.66, but ive been told because the Duo is a newer processor, its actually faster?

Hi, although the 1.66 may look a lower number, in reality because it is dual core it is really 2x1.66=3.32ghz, much faster than the 1.7

It doesn't have much to do with it being newer The core duo is the more powerful processor due to the difference in architecture. It should be faster for single-threaded apps and will blow the PentM away for apps such as Photoshop etc...

In direct answer to your question, yes, the Core 2 Duo is faster. Much much faster too lol.
