Default CPU only running at half?

Hi, I've had this problem for a while now. I have a Intel Northwood 2.8Ghz processor, and a MSI MS-7005 Micro ATX Mainboard. When I go to system settings its showing that my processors only running at 1.4Ghz, so I went into the BIOS and changed the frequency to the highest there is, 133Mhz I think? and got the processor running at 1.87Ghz. But I would still like to use my full 2.8Ghz so if anyone knows a solution to this problem or could offer some help it would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the specs for the motherboard:
CPU
  • Socket 478 for Intel® P4 processors (Willimate 478 and Northwood 478 / Celeron 478) with 400/533 MHz
  • Supports up to 3.06GHz
  • Supports Hyper-Threading Technology
MSI MS-7005

Hello RotnDawg, welcome to PCHF.

Sounds like your CPU is dual core? Meaning that a each core will run a 1.4ghz each. 2x1.4 = 2.8.

No, the processor was bought well before dual core, about 5 years ago. Its just a 478 pin 2.8Ghz processor.

Can you download SIW and check how Windows is reading that CPU: SIW | Download (scroll down to Hardware followed by CPU Info).

You can also check your BIOS settings, you probably have the multiplier set low, OR, you might have energy saving features on like speedstep which lower your CPU's speed when idle

Downloaded the program, heres what it said about the CPU:

Property Value
Number of CPU(s) One Physical Processor / One Core / 2 Logical Processors
Vendor GenuineIntel
CPU Full Name Intel Pentium 4 HT
CPU Name Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
CPU Code Name Northwood
Technology 0.13µ
Platform Name Socket 478
Type Original OEM processor
FSB Mode QDR
Platform ID 2
Microcode ID 2E
Type ID 0
CPU Clock 1402.43
System Bus Clock -1.0
System Clock 100.17
Multiplier 14.00
Original Clock 2800.00
Original Bus Clock 800.00
Original System Clock 200.00
Original Multiplier 14.00
L2 Cache Speed 1402.43 MHz
L2 Cache Speed Full
CPU Family / Model / Stepping F / 2 / 9
Brand ID 09
HyperThreading 2
Cache 12 KµOps L1 T-Cache, 8 KB L1 D-Cache, 512 KB L2 Cache
Instructions MMX, SSE, SSE2, HT, HTT, MSR
Architecture x86

So it must be something with the BIOS settings, although im sure ive tryed every possible combination but the only thing that seemed to work was changing the CPU frequency from 100Mhz to 133Mhz which only stepped the processor up to 1.8Ghz. Is there another setting that im supposed to be changing in the BIOS along with the cpu frequency?

Hey Dawg, sorry I missed that one. Can you try disabling hyperthreading within your BIOS?
