Hi guys would appreciate a little help. I recently built my second PC, specs below, and it worked pretty well for a week or so. Then suddenly everything started running slowly. A quick check of the Processes window showed the CPU running at 90 - 100%. Well, i tried everything, that i could think of. Im not all that tech savvy. I did malware checks, uninstalled a few unnecessary programs, defragmented etc. Then just as i was about to reinstall windows, in a desperate last bid before taking the whole thing apart and returning it to the shop, i turned on my PC as usual to find everything working as normal. I was so delighted of course I just swept it all aside as if none of it had ever happened. HOWEVER, now, another 3 weeks later the problems back....
Last night PC working fine, this morning also, now this evening i turn it on and the CPUs working at 95-100% even though ive not got anything unusual running. I just opened her up and checked all the connections...only saw one possible problem, and that was the AMD 770 chipset cooling radiator thing seemed pretty wobbly, i could move it about, didnt notice that before, not sure if its a problem or not.
PC specs...
PA77GTA-VT Jetway Motherboard
NVIDIA 7600 GT GPU
AMDx2 4200+
2GB RAM
Things that have gone wrong so far...
1 CPU running at 90-100% ... twice
2 Also for the past 5 days the PC wont shut down properly, it attempts to restart instead.
3 Some games that I hear other people can run fairly easily with a similar rig, mine struggles with. Oblivion worked reasonably well for a few days but noticeably slowed down after a while, of course that could be due to a dozen other reasons.
4 Also...strangely, where the PC was once running constantly at 95-100%. After opening her up and prodding around, it seems to now be running at 75-85%!!! Weird.
5 Sound was a little garbled on windows start up
6 Windows itself starting up was very slow, like 3 to 4 times as long
7 A week ago, for a few days the PC wouldnt start up at all, it would go to the options screen of "start windows as usual" or "last known configs that worked" etc, but freeze a few times, I got it working eventually, more by luck perhaps and the problem went away...
Hmmmm as i write that little lot, im beginning to think ive got a serious problem on my hands here, dammit.
Any ideas?
CPU problem?
Operating system?
Motherboard?
AMD 770 chipset with a dodgy cooler?
Compatability issue?
I recently installed Windows Service pack 3, could that be it...installed it right beforethe problems started. ???
Power Supply? Im using the same one as my old computer, its 400W, but about 3 years old...that could be the problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,.
