Default [Fixed] intel dual core 2140 @1.60ghz

I have an Intel dual core 2140 @ 1.60ghz. it says in Fox one (the utility that came with my motherboard that tells you stuff like CPU temeraure, fan speed) that it is running at 200mhz, is this ok or can i get it running faster?

Thanks

Seansnr

Howdy seansnr..

Did you build the pc with the CD in it? Or is it a dell, HP etc..

If it is a Dell etc, you cannot change the Front side bus (overclocking) but if you built it I can guide ya..

Hi Merlin,

I originally bought a Compaq SR5109uk pc but the motherboard didnt have a pcie x16 slot so i upraded the motherboard to as near as i could get to the original, CCL told me to get a Foxconn 945g7md-8ekrs2h i dont know what the origial model was. I upgraded the ram to 2gb and i am planning to get a nvidia 8800gt graphics card as soon as my budget lets me.

your processor itself is not running at 200mhz. that is the FSB most likely that you are seeing. please download CPUz and tell me what it says. Your processor uses a 200mhz quad pumped FSB (800mhz effective).

ok that doesnt make any sense at all. oh wait. what i think is happening, is Intel Speedstep is lowering the Multiplier from 8 (1.6Ghz) to 6 (1.2Ghz) it slows down the core speed when it is not being completely utilized, to save power, and increase battery life. when you run CPU intensive programs, it should kick the speed back up to 1.6Ghz. Dont worry about it.
