Question [Answered] A8n-e + Amd Fx-55??

I know their the same socket and everything but i was just wondering if there will be any compatibility issues?

Also i have never replaced a processor and was wondering if anything has to be done when changing processors such as changes in the BIOS or anything else needed to take full advantage of the faster processor.

My current system specs are supposedly in my sig but this is my first time posting so here are the relevant ones:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.21 GHz (w/ ZalmanCNPS7000B-AlCu)
2gb Mushkin PC4000 DDR SDRAM
1gb Mushkin PC3200 DDR SDRAM
Mushkin 500W power supply
Asus A8N-E
BFG Geforce 7800 GT OC 256mb

Thx

It should be absolutely fine, when you replace the processor the bios should alter everything, if not it's nothing a cmos reset shouldn't fix, have a browse through the manual but it should be fine.

As for the rest of your system, it should be fine, the only thing I would consider is using matched speed RAM but all in all it should be ok

Edit: Also, sorry for the response time, please be patient.

lol sry for being a little short but theres like 20 mins left on the bid for the processor i'm getting and i needed an answer

also why would matched RAM make any sort of difference? MemoryExpress Upgraded me to Mushkin Redline for free when i built the PC and was having problems and its very expensive top of the line stuff which i didn't care to match

also i sound kinda n00b like but how would i reset CMOS

Hello Nick. Dont worry about the memory, its the right speed. In order to reset the CMOS,
1. Turn PC off
2. Ground yourself by touching the metal frame/case
3. unplug PC
4 open it up, and look inside for a set of jumpers, that will say something to the effect of "CLR CMOS, or CMOS FLASH" or something.
5.switch over, and leave for a miute
6. switch back, and put your computer back together.

The speed is fine as AW said, it was just a general comment, to see any kinda benefit of the faster ram you would need to have any other ram the same speed or it just gets clocked down to the speed of the slowest DIMM in your PC.
