Processor/CPU - [Answered] cpu temp help! posted in the Hardware forums; If you want to know what temp your cpu is running at, download speedfan from my signature, and install it. it will report many system temps....
Ouch! Mind you, a lot of the Prescots can run even higher. Those CPU's have the ability to throttleback and reduce it's clock speed based on the current temperature. In theory, these should never burn out. I wish all CPU's were like that.
I think the C2D include that technology too. I think all new Intel CPUs have them. Not sure about AMD though. But after i put AS5 and a better fan in, it ran about 39 Idle and 52 Load. Not bad.

All Intels have that built-in as far as I know ... not AMD though-- an AMD with a failed CPU-fan will fry itself for sure-- where an Intel may survive.
Lol i found an old Compaq in the trash that had a 1.8Ghz Williamete in it. I didnt care what happened to it, so i took the heatsink off and ran it.... guesss what? IT WORKED PERFECTLY. It ran hot (~80 degrees) but i could surf the internet and stuff. (albeit very slowly) LoL Amazing.
They didn't make it for the Celerons, and Pre-Celerons didn't have this technology. They also didn't make it for the M Series (found in Notebook PC's), possibly because their max temps insanly hit triple figures. You could probably cook your bacon on it in just a couple of seconds lol. I believe there are a couple more, but not sure of the rest. Not sure why AMD haven't taken this technology onboard
